Getting into job in the architectural field is not easy right? It is very competitive field. You need to push yourself every moment to compete with who does have lots of working experiences or new enthusiastic graduates sprawl out every year.
So how do you prepare yourself to compete with others?
1. Have solid portfolio that stands out with other competitors. Most of firms nowadays aksing digital pdf files less than 3-10mb which saves us from running over kinkos and paying unreasonable price for hard copy. Be prepare to have several different versions of portfolio. The reason is because you definitely don't want to show bunch of drafting drawings to a firm that looking to hire 3d-modeler or renderer. Therefore, the best strategy for this case  is showing your strongest renderings and 3d-modeling in the first few pages and showing your drafting drawing later. It is very straight forward am I right?
2. Know your limits: be honest about your skill and talents that you currently have. Learning a new programs and learning new techniques is very amusing if you are still in school or it is for your own personal time. However, trust me, learning a new thing takes times so just be honest about your skills when you applying for the job.
3. You might getting start as architectural intern. This means you won't be getting much than you have expected to get paid. In addition, you might not even getting benefits like paid holiday, sick paid, 401k or medical, or dental insurances because they don't hired you as full-time or because they hired you as self-contracted.
